Our two nights/two days in London were jam packed and we covered so much ground, both by Tube (the underground) and by foot, and fortunately had really good weather. Wednesday evening we picked up our car, joined rush hour trafffic and headed southwest for our overnight, waking up the next morning to rain and wind. But that didn't stop us from visiting the small village of Chawton, where the Jane Austen House is located. This is where she spent eight years at the end of her life and wrote most of her published novels. Each room of the house is filled with information and furniture from her lifetime and the grounds have a beautiful garden.
While David sat in the car and did a watercolor of the house, Abby and I walked through the small village a bit, then had "cream tea" (tea & scone) at Cassandra's Tea Cup, a darling little place with tea cups hanging from the ceiling and a dish and utensil for everything! Because it was busy, we shared our table with an Irish veterinary medicine salesman who was passing through for work, and he engaged us in a lively conversation! While we were inside the sun came out!
